Pizza is nearly perfect all by itself. The union of sauce, cheese, and crust—there’s not much you can do to make it even better. But here are eight all-star pantry additions that do just that.
Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning Mix
Technically, you can use this to make dressing, but it’s better if you just use it as a seasoning—and there’s no better place for ranch seasoning than pizza.
Lao Gan Má
The serving size on a jar of this is 4 tablespoons. It’s hard not to use a lot of this it’s so good. The roasted soy nuts, fried onion, and fried garlic make it extra crispy, and it’s so nice on pizza.
Cholula Green Pepper Hot Sauce
There are plenty of hot sauces you can add to pizza, but this one is less obviously about heat. It’s still made with jalapeños, but it’s a little less hot with some smokiness from the poblanos.
Penzeys Spices Pizza Seasoning
It’s basically a spicy Italian seasoning mix. They tell you it’ll transform “frozen pizza,” but really it’s good on all pizza. Think crushed red pepper meets a lot of fennel and oregano.
Matouk’s West Indian Hot Sauce-Salsa Picante
This hot sauce received Playboy Magazine’s highest rating: five chiles. It’s made with papaya and mustard, and blended with scotch bonnet peppers—intense heat without much sweetness.
Mike’s Hot Honey
This honey actually started at a pizzeria. Mike, the founder, made it and started drizzling it on pizzas where he worked. It’s the perfect spicy, sweet combo to go on top of melted cheese.
Wish-Bone Italian Dressing
There are three flavors of Wish-Bone Italian, but House is the very best. You can put it on anything, really. But one of the best things to do is to use it for dunking a slice of pizza.
Spicy Ssäm Sauce
Good on everything, but especially good on pizza.
